''There are pictures in your mind, and you can choose them.'' --Guo Juan on how to select a move
Baduk is an ancient game of strategy. We play on a grid, like chess, but the grid is about 5 times bigger. Baduk is very popular in Asia, where top professionals are quite famous and compete for large prizes. So far, computers cannot play Baduk well; the board is too large and the strategy is too subtle.
Baduk is the Korean name for the game. In China it is called Wei'chi, and in Japan, Igo. In the West, it is called, simply, Go. (A poor choice, conflicting with the English verb)
I am a 3 Dan, which is a moderately strong level for a Western amateur, about the 80th percentile here in the U.S.
I started to play Baduk in 2002 while at RIT.''Innocence of heart and violence of feeling are necessary in any kind of superior achievement: The arts cannot exist without them.'' - Louise A. Bogan
